GianCarlo Piretti diseñador italiano

Giancarlo Piretti, Italian furniture designer, was born in Bologna in 1940. He studied at the Istituto Statale d'Arte in Bologna until 1960. After finishing his studies, Giancarlo Piretti worked as an interior designer for Anonima Castelli designing home furniture series, office furniture systems and the legendary, award-winning Plia chair.
During his twelve years with Castelli, he developed countless furniture designs mainly in the field of seating. From 1963 to 1970, G. Piretti was a professor at the Istituto Statale d'Arte in Bologna.

In the late 1970s, Giancarlo Piretti collaborated with Emilio Ambasz in the design of award-winning ergonomic office furniture.

Considered one of the representative designers of the first Italian design movement: Bel Design, he was a prolific designer with boundless creativity, to whom we owe many design icons, including the "Alky" armchair (1969), the "Plia" chair (1969) and the "Plona" seat (1970). In 1988 he presented his "Piretti" collection at NeoCon (Chicago), a series of more than 50 office chairs and seats with a patented mechanism in the backrest that allows the chairs to adjust to the weight of the user. A collection that has won several international awards.

Today, Piretti continues to live and work in Bologna with his son, the designer Alessandro Piretti.
