Black Wassily Chair

1,200.00€

Wassily chair designed by Marcel Breuer, upholstered in black leather. Its chromed steel frame has been restored to its original shine. The upholstery shows minimal signs of wear and tear and has no tears whatsoever.

Its frame, with clean, open geometric lines, allows light to pass through, making the Wassily a chair that is not merely sat upon, but integrates into the space with an almost sculptural presence.

The Wassily chair, also known as the B3, was the first tubular chair on the market, initially produced and sold between 1926 and 1929 by the Austrian firm Thonet until the Second World War, when the firm ceased production.

Marcel Breuer designed this chair whilst he was head of the carpentry workshop at the Bauhaus in Dessau, Germany. Breuer used to cycle to work, which allowed him to observe the handlebars made of tubular steel—a lightweight yet sturdy material—and he realised that this material could also be used for furniture making, leading him to produce the first sketches of the B3 chair.

A design icon: versatile, timeless and comfortable.

This piece shows minimal signs of use.
